Russia Aims to Wear Down Ukraine: EU Ambassador Responds to Massive Attack on Kyiv
Katarina Maternová, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, commented on Russia’s latest massive attack on Kyiv on the night of July 6. According to her, only three days had passed between the strikes on the capital.
She emphasized that residential infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region had been hit. In particular, high-rise buildings were damaged and destroyed, and people were trapped under the rubble.
“Even before rescue workers had finished clearing the rubble from last week’s attack, rockets and drones were once again falling on the Ukrainian capital,” Maternova noted.
The EU representative also noted that at least 12 people were killed and more than 60 were injured during the enemy attack. Among those injured in the Kyiv region is a nine-month-old infant.
Furthermore, according to her, at least 15 high-rise buildings were damaged, including a nine-story building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district. In the suburbs, particularly in Bucha, emergency services continue to work amid the risk of secondary explosions. Odesa and communities around the capital were also hit by shelling.
Commenting on the attack, Maternova emphasized that the strikes are targeted and directed against the civilian population, not military targets.
“Every new strike sends the same message: Russia does not seek peace. It is trying to wear Ukraine down, terrorize its people, and break their will,” Maternova concluded.

As a reminder, in Vyshneve, entire streets have been destroyed following the Russian attack, and the evacuation of residents is ongoing.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that an entire family was killed as a result of Russia’s massive nighttime missile attack on Kyiv.
