Actress Nadia Jamil talks about cancer treatment — Dawn
Pakistani actress, activist and coach Nadia Jamil, who lives in Lahore, called working with children the main purpose of her life. In an interview with Dawn, she spoke about choosing acting projects, cancer treatment, child protection and adopting her daughter Noor.
Jamil said that she now agrees to appear in television dramas only when she is interested in the project as a whole. She runs a coaching practice, sits on the board of the Punjab Protection Bureau and works with children as a mental health professional. According to her, she specializes in drama therapy, is a hypnotherapist and uses a range of coaching methods.
Filming and treatment
The actress explained that she regularly takes anti-cancer medication, which causes hot flashes and makes filming in summer more difficult. Therefore, during the warm season she more often focuses on coaching, while in winter she can pause this work for a role. Among the works she likes, Jamil named Behadd, Mere Paas Paas, Jo Bichharr Gaye, Faraar and Khushboo Mein Basay Khat.
In 2017, Jamil moved to Cambridge in the United Kingdom to provide education for her sons. In 2020, she was diagnosed with cancer, after which she remained in the United Kingdom for treatment. The actress said that the illness became a turning point for her, and she later became a coach and reconsidered her own goals.

Child protection and family
Jamil has publicly spoken out against child sexual abuse for many years. She previously spoke about abuse she experienced in childhood, and in the interview stressed that she continues to speak about the issue in order to help at least one child and raise awareness.
The actress also drew attention to the child protection policy in Pakistan's Punjab province, which requires cases of abuse, forced labor or forced marriage involving a child to be reported to authorities. Jamil stated that no similar mechanism exists in other provinces of Pakistan.
Jamil has two biological sons and a daughter, Noor, whom the family adopted in 2022. According to the actress, the girl was born blind but can now see, and the adoption procedure lasted eight to nine months. Jamil is married to Ali Pervez, whom she has known since her teenage years.
