Actor Taiwo Hassan diagnosed with stage IV cancer — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, a friend of the late actor and screenwriter Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan said that he was diagnosed with stage IV cancer after several visits to hospitals over chest pain. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the actor died shortly after the diagnosis was made and was buried in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The diagnosis had previously been reported by the actor’s daughters, Kira and Halime. Hassan’s friend Aziz “Olu Ogogo” Onifade, who had been friends with him for 25 years, said the chest pain began during a trip to Ilaro. The actor was initially taken to the hospital used by his family, but the pain had not subsided by the following morning.
Examinations in Lagos
According to Onifade, Hassan was then taken to Apena Hospital in the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos, where he underwent examinations and received injections to relieve the pain. He was later referred to another hospital and then to LASUTH, where, according to his friend, they were informed of the cancer diagnosis.

The following day, the actor’s relatives and friends discussed further treatment. Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, proposed sending Hassan to India. However, obtaining a visa was delayed, and when it was issued, the actor’s condition, according to Onifade, no longer allowed him to fly by plane.
Treatment in Nigeria
Onifade said the senator arranged for a doctor from India to come to Nigeria. He advised transferring the actor to St Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island, where treatment began that same evening. Several specialists were involved in providing assistance; according to the friend, Hassan began eating a little, but about five days before his death, his condition changed.
Onifade also thanked the people who supported the actor and his family during his illness, including Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Senator Adeola, traditional rulers, and Hassan’s colleagues in the film industry.
