Dua Lipa voiced her support for the protests in Albania against a resort linked to Trump and Kushner
Singer Dua Lipa has expressed her support for the protests in Albania against the construction of a resort linked to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
The singer, whose parents are Kosovar Albanians, made the statement during a new episode of her podcast, Service95 Book Club, recorded with Albanian scholar and writer Leja Ipi.
“I’m so inspired to see how much people really care,” the singer said.
The protests, which have been ongoing for six weeks and have been dubbed the “flamingo revolution,” are directed against a large-scale tourism project on Sazan Island and the Zvernets Peninsula. According to the publication, the project’s investors include a company linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his wife, Ivanka Trump.
Dua Lipa also criticized the Albanian government’s decision to amend legislation, which allowed for development in ecologically sensitive areas.
“What really concerns me is the very principle that the government can simply change the law to repeal environmental protection measures without any public consultation,” she said.
The Albanian parliament passed the legislative amendments in December 2024. However, there is no evidence that Jared Kushner was involved in these legislative changes.
The project calls for development in nature reserves on Sazan Island and the Zvernec Peninsula, including the construction of about 10,000 villas. Environmentalists warn that implementing these plans could cause irreparable damage to local ecosystems. Earlier, members of the European Parliament stated that failure to comply with environmental standards could complicate Albania’s EU accession negotiations.

Alexander Trajçe, leader of the Albanian environmental organization PPNEA, called Dua Lipa’s words “a very powerful statement,” which, he said, has inspired many young Albanians. He also noted that the protests will continue, and that the government has only just begun conducting an environmental impact assessment of the project.
