Rapper Cassper Nyovest criticized in South Africa over statement on Rick Ross — TimesLIVE
South African rapper Cassper Nyovest has faced criticism on social media after condemning American rapper Rick Ross over domestic violence allegations. TimesLIVE reports.
Statement by former partner
Rick Ross's former girlfriend, model Jazzma Kendrick, posted photos on social media showing bruises on her face and a swollen lip. In the caption, she said that the rapper split her lip and added that this was when she left him. Kendrick alleges that Ross subjected her to physical violence during their relationship.
After social media users expressed support for the model, Nyovest wrote that he no longer considers himself a fan of Rick Ross. He also said that beating a woman cannot be justified regardless of the circumstances.

Accusations of a selective stance
Some users supported the rapper for speaking out against gender-based violence. Others accused him of being selective, recalling his previous posts supporting American R&B performer Chris Brown regarding his show at FNB Stadium.
TimesLIVE notes that Brown has a documented history of domestic violence and assault allegations. Despite the criticism, Nyovest said that he would continue to decide for himself how to use his social media pages and his voice.
