Security measures have been stepped up in Bucharest ahead of Max Korzh's concert
On May 23, unprecedented security measures were implemented in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, ahead of a concert by Belarusian rapper Max Korzh. According to local authorities, tens of thousands of the artist’s fans arrived in the city, prompting law enforcement to step up security in public areas and near the concert venue.
This was reported by Digi 24.
The Romanian police stated that this is a large-scale event with specific characteristics, as more than 40,000 participants from various countries have arrived.
“We are talking about efforts not only by the Ministry of Internal Affairs but also by many other agencies, including intelligence, the prosecutor’s office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 90% of the attendees are foreigners. And this requires coordinated efforts on the part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We are utilizing all types of resources, both human and technical,” stated Marius Militaru, Director of Communications for the Romanian Gendarmerie.
Thousands of young people from dozens of countries have traveled to Bucharest specifically to see a Belarusian artist, virtually unknown in Romania, who will perform at the National Arena.
Just a few days ago, young people began arriving in the capital, mainly from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and the Republic of Moldova.
Romanian law enforcement is on high alert in light of the riots in Warsaw during the Belarusian artist’s concert. At that time, over 100 people were detained for aggression and drug possession. It is reported that Romanian law enforcement collaborated with their Polish counterparts, who provided them with useful information to prepare for the event.
Traffic restrictions have been imposed on several major roads in the capital for the duration of Saturday’s concert in Bucharest. Since Friday, law enforcement has been conducting preventive measures at key locations throughout the city, where they were able to convey recommendations to the artist’s fans and emphasize the importance of maintaining public order.
In particular, special QR codes were created that redirect to the Romanian Gendarmerie’s website, where recommendations are posted in several foreign languages, as not all attendees speak English.
Law enforcement officers are assisted by service animals—horses, as well as dogs trained to detect explosives and prohibited substances. The public order forces include community policing officers who speak several foreign languages. As of 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, no serious incidents had been reported.
Some tram lines in Bucharest will run until midnight to help the artist’s fans leave the National Arena.
