Pepino from Shizong County exported to Malaysia for the first time
Shizong County in China’s Yunnan Province has exported pepino to Malaysia for the first time. A 23.5-tonne shipment of the fruit was sent to the country after passing an inspection by Qujing Customs, ECNS reports.
Entering the foreign market
The shipment marked the first entry of pepino grown in Shizong into a foreign market. Local producers plan to further expand their presence in the markets of ASEAN countries.
Shizong, whose economy historically depended on the coal industry, has shifted toward green agriculture. ECNS noted that the region’s high altitude, abundant sunlight and significant differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures are favorable for growing high-quality pepino.

Preparing for exports
Qujing Customs advised local producers on bringing orchards into compliance with ASEAN standards and helped them obtain export registration.
During the first seven months of 2026, Qujing Customs oversaw exports of 16,000 tonnes of agricultural products worth a total of 210 million yuan, or about $31 million. This was 73% higher in volume and 57% higher in value than in the same period of the previous year.
