Estonia to allocate an additional €26.4 million in support to farmers
The Estonian government has approved amendments to the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan. They provide an additional €26.4 million for agricultural producers next year.
Increase in direct payments
As ERR News reports, the amendments will make it possible to increase the budget for direct payments next year by the maximum possible amount. The funds are intended to help producers mitigate the effects of rising prices following the crisis in the Middle East and losses caused by adverse weather conditions.
Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Hendrik Johannes Terras said that the funding would come from the EU’s long-term budget. Its use will not require additional expenditure from Estonia’s state budget.

Producers are expected to receive the main part of the funds in December next year. The support is intended to improve the financial situation of businesses and help cover significantly increased operating costs.
Recipients of the funds
The allocation of funding was agreed following proposals from the Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce, the Central Union of Farmers and organic farming organisations. Additional support will be provided to farmers raising cows, sheep and goats, as well as producers of fruit, vegetables, berries, cereals, legumes and seed potatoes.
