UPPL begins commercial palm oil production in Nigeria
Enugu United Palm Products Limited (UPPL) in Enugu State, Nigeria, has begun commercial production of palm oil for the domestic market. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria. The company is also investing around $2.2 million in a plant that will refine crude palm oil and palm kernel oil.
Restoration of plantations
UPPL is a public-private partnership between Pragmatic Palms Limited and the Enugu State government. The company's managing director, Professor George Nwangwu, said the enterprise had restored plantations in Ibite-Olo, Umulokpi and Ugwu-Oba. They are located in the Ezeagu, Uzo-Uwani and Oji River local government areas, respectively.
According to Nwangwu, the company has replanted more than 1,000 hectares and is gradually replacing old palm trees, some of which are more than 50 years old. UPPL has installed mills and is increasing oil production volumes while also working to improve its quality.

Refining and the EVOP brand
The planned plant is to process crude palm oil into olein and stearin and refine palm kernel oil. The company is also developing an industrial complex intended to combine its production and processing operations.
UPPL has launched the EVOP palm oil brand. According to the company, the products are already available in open markets and supermarkets in Nigeria, while sachet packs were expected to go on sale within two weeks. Nwangwu said the company controls the entire production cycle and holds certifications from NAFDAC, SON and other relevant bodies.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah promised UPPL support, including improvements to roads leading to the plantations and protection of land from encroachment. He also assured that the government would provide the 6,700 hectares of land stipulated by the partnership. According to Mbah, the authorities will support the company's plan to enter the Nigerian stock market within four years.
