The European Commission proposes introducing a single ticket in the EU

The European Commission has adopted proposals to establish a system of combined tickets, including rail tickets, that will allow passengers to book journeys involving multiple operators with a single payment.

This was reported by the European Commission.

The new rules are intended to eliminate the fragmentation of booking systems and facilitate the planning of cross-border routes through independent platforms or the carriers’ own services. Passengers with such a ticket will receive full protection of their rights in the event of a missed connection, including assistance, re-routing, and financial compensation. Platforms will also be required to rank offers by greenhouse gas emissions to support the community’s environmental goals.

The proposed regulations must now be reviewed by the Council of the EU and the European Parliament. It is expected that this will make the rail market more transparent and encourage citizens to switch to more sustainable modes of transport. The implementation of the initiative will ensure fair access for all operators to sales systems and prevent large companies from exerting monopolistic influence on the transport market.

Ukrzaliznytsia has launched a “victory train” dedicated to the heroes of the resistance.

The Lviv Railway plans to launch a service between Uzhhorod and Ivano-Frankivsk; part of the route will pass through Romania.
