Infantino wanted to secure a $30 million salary for himself working for Trump

According to an investigation by The Times, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was devising a plan to create a commercial subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), whose shares were to be sold to the Trump family. 

The new company was to be granted the rights to manage the commercial and operational rights to FIFA’s major tournaments (including the World Cup and the Club World Cup).

The plan called for the sale of approximately 20–21% of FFE’s shares to private investors, including Trump’s associates, which could have raised about $4.2 billion based on the company’s total valuation of $20 billion. After completing his term as FIFA president, Infantino expected to take on the role of FFE commissioner with a base salary of over $30 million per year (plus bonuses), which significantly exceeds his current salary as FIFA president (~$3 million).

The initiative faced harsh criticism and resistance from the continental confederations (notably UEFA, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and the AFC), and Europe even threatened to boycott tournaments organized under the auspices of FIFA. As a result of a barrage of accusations regarding conflicts of interest and failure to comply with corporate governance standards, Infantino announced the complete withdrawal and cancellation of the project.
