Madyar Outlines Condition for Unlocking EU Loan to Ukraine — Bloomberg

Hungary's new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, has announced that Budapest is prepared to lift its veto on a European Union loan to Ukraine.

Bloomberg reports this.

The main condition for receiving 90 billion euros is the full resumption of fuel supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.

The head of the Hungarian government noted that he is counting on support for this decision from Viktor Orbán, who is currently finishing his term.

Mátyás expects that political obstacles will disappear as soon as the strategic energy facility resumes normal operations.

Previously, the politician had already made official statements that Hungary does not intend to create artificial obstacles to European aid for Kyiv.

In a recent interview with state television, he confirmed the country’s change of course regarding financial support for Ukraine.

Despite its willingness to stop blocking joint EU funds, Budapest maintains a certain distance on financial matters.

The Hungarian side insists on maintaining its refusal to participate directly in the formation of this loan package.

“Hungary will still maintain its refusal to participate financially in the loan,” emphasized Péter Magyar, commenting on the country’s position regarding budgetary commitments to Brussels.
