An entrepreneur was put on trial in Lviv Oblast for a scheme involving "humanitarian" trucks
In the Lviv region, a court has sentenced a businessman who imported trucks into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and then sold them for cash. The investigation found that more than 2 million hryvnias worth of equipment was illegally imported into the country through a scheme involving forged documents.
The Yavoriv District Court of Lviv Oblast found businessman Ivan Tsinyk guilty of a scheme to illegally import trucks from Europe under the guise of humanitarian aid for the military. According to the investigation, over the course of several months, the man organized a channel for supplying equipment from EU countries using forged documents. In customs declarations, the trucks were listed as aid for the “KRUZAK” charitable foundation to avoid paying customs duties.
Drivers were hired to transport the equipment across the border; according to the case file, they were unaware of the true nature of the scheme. They believed they were transporting humanitarian cargo for the Ukrainian military.
In reality, however, some of the vehicles never reached the army. The investigation established that the entrepreneur sold two MAN dump trucks, which had allegedly been imported for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to another person for $10,000 in cash. After that, as law enforcement officials discovered, Tsynik purchased another DAF CF 460 tractor-trailer along with a trailer in the United Kingdom. He also brought this equipment into Ukraine through the Krakivets border crossing, again using humanitarian aid documents.
The total value of the trucks illegally imported under this scheme exceeded 2.1 million hryvnias.
During the trial, the businessman fully admitted his guilt and reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor. He also voluntarily transferred 350,000 hryvnias to the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the investigation.
In addition, the defendant requested that the seized vehicles be transferred to the Ukrainian military. As a result, the court sentenced him to one year of probation and a fine of 374,000 hryvnias.
