Captain Serhiy Chornyi was killed during an attack on police officers in the Khmelnytskyi region
In the Khmelnytskyi region, 33-year-old police captain Serhii Chornyi was killed while on duty. Law enforcement officers came under armed attack; the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
The National Police of Ukraine reported this on May 15.
“On May 15, 2026, in the village of Terlivka, Letychivska territorial community, Khmelnytskyi district, an armed attack was carried out against police officers. As a result of his injuries, the 33-year-old police captain died,” the statement reads.
It is noted that Serhiy Chornyi dedicated more than fifteen years to service in Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies. In 2014, he graduated from Lviv State University of Internal Affairs with a degree in Law. He worked as an inspector in the patrol police response unit of Police Department No. 3 of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department under the Main Directorate of the National Police in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
His colleagues knew him as a principled, responsible, and dedicated police officer who was always the first to come to people’s aid. The law enforcement officer is survived by his parents, wife, and two children.
“His death is an irreparable loss for his family, colleagues, and the entire police community… We bow our heads in sorrow and express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. May his memory live on and may he be eternally honored as a colleague who remained faithful to his duty and the Ukrainian people until the very end,” the police stated.
