The Polish Parliament did not approve the dismissal of the Minister of the Interior

Poland rejected an attempt to dismiss Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kervinsky. The opposition voted for his dismissal, but there were not enough votes to pass the motion.

As a result, the head of the Ministry of the Interior retained his position. Kervinsky himself stated that the accusations against him are baseless and politically motivated.

The Polish Sejm voted against a motion of no confidence in Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kervinsky. 202 deputies voted in favor of his dismissal. Two hundred thirty-two lawmakers voted against it, and one MP abstained. Thus, the motion failed to gain the necessary support, and the minister will continue to perform his duties.

The vote was initiated by the opposition Law and Justice party. Representatives of the political force stated that Kervinsky should bear political responsibility for a series of problems in the field of internal security. The opposition’s complaints included issues regarding the work of law enforcement agencies, the activities of the secret services, and the situation at Poland’s borders. In addition, lawmakers pointed to a series of incidents which, in their view, indicate failures in the ministry’s work.

During the debate, the opposition claimed that the government had not responded effectively enough to acts of sabotage on the railways. Other complaints included the situation on Poland’s western border and the response of the services during a wave of false reports of threats against prominent public figures.

According to Law and Justice MPs, all these issues should have had political consequences for the head of the Ministry of the Interior. That is why the opposition put the question of his resignation to a vote in parliament.

Marcin Kervinski categorically rejected all accusations. He stated that many of the complaints contain false information and have no real basis. The minister also noted that this is the opposition’s second attempt to secure his dismissal. “This is the best proof that I am doing my job well. I am not aware of any situation where those being pursued by the police would speak highly of the police,” Kervinsky said during the discussion of the issue. According to him, the attacks by the opposition are merely indicative of political infighting, not of actual failures in the ministry’s work.

The Polish Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the work of the police, border guards, rescue services, and a number of other security agencies. That is why any discussions regarding the activities of the Minister of the Interior traditionally attract significant attention from Polish politicians and the public.

Despite criticism from the opposition, the parliamentary majority decided to keep Kervinsky in office. Following the vote, Donald Tusk’s government retained control over one of the country’s key security agencies, and the issue of the minister’s resignation is now closed. This was reported by Polsat News.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced private consultations with Ukraine regarding the possible naming of one of the Special Operations Forces units Heroes of the UPA.” According to him, this issue is being discussed in a diplomatic format.

Warsaw has reacted to the decision to rename the Ukrainian military unit. This refers to an elite unit of the Special Operations Forces, which, according to reports, was named in honor of the Heroes of the UPA. This has sparked a critical reaction in Polish society and political circles.
