Despite the ceasefire, Israel struck Lebanon; there are casualties

Despite the declared ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli forces carried out strikes on Lebanese territory. At least five people were killed in the attacks, including a Lebanese Army soldier. The sides once again exchanged harsh statements, and the ceasefire was effectively on the verge of collapse.

Overnight and in the morning, the Israeli military carried out strikes on southern Lebanon, despite the fact that international mediators had announced the day before that a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah had gone into effect. The shelling affected border areas where tensions have been high for a long time and armed clashes occur periodically.

The Lebanese Army confirmed the deaths of five people, including one soldier, and reported damage to infrastructure in the affected areas. Meanwhile, the Israeli side has not officially commented on the overnight strikes, remaining silent amid new accusations. Hezbollah stated that it reserves the right to respond to any further attacks, emphasizing that Israel’s actions have not ceased even after the ceasefire was declared. The group’s statement emphasizes that it views the situation as a violation of the agreements and is prepared to respond.

According to international media reports, U.S. and regional officials had announced the day before the launch of a ceasefire intended to ease tensions along Lebanon’s southern border. However, the Israeli military had previously stated that it reserves the right to “operational freedom of action” in the event of threats, which effectively leaves room for further strikes.

Experts emphasize that the situation remains extremely unstable, as even partial violations of the ceasefire could quickly undermine the agreements and plunge the region back into an active phase of conflict. This is reported by Reuters.

U.S. intelligence has warned the Donald Trump administration that Israel’s actions could jeopardize recent efforts to reach a long-term peace agreement with Iran.
