Russia attacked Ukraine with "Iskander" missiles and 136 drones: Air defense forces shot down 117 drones
On the night of August 4, 2026, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using an “Iskander-M” ballistic missile and 136 attack drones. Air defense forces shot down 117 UAVs, but recorded missile strikes and drone strikes at 14 different locations.
According to the Air Force, the Russians launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile from the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, as well as 136 Shahed-type attack UAVs—including jet-powered ones, “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” and “Parody”-type decoy drones from the directions of Orel, Millerovo, as well as the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk region and Crimea.
The air attack was repelled by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces:
“As of 08:00, air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 117 enemy UAVs—including Shahed, Gerber, Italmas, and other types—in the north, south, and east of the country.”
The Air Force reported that ballistic missile strikes and 14 attack drones were detected at 14 locations. Debris from downed aerial targets also fell in three areas.
The Air Force noted that the attack is ongoing and that Russian drones remain in Ukrainian airspace. Ukrainians were urged not to ignore air raid sirens.
On the night of August 4, 2026, Russian forces launched guided airstrikes on Sumy. Two children and an elderly woman were killed in the attack.
Earlier, drones attacked the strategic port of Taman in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai.
On July 30, Robert Brovdi (“Madyar”), commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, reported on the latest combat results of Ukrainian units.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the destruction of a Russian export terminal and military facilities.
