Rubio called Zelenskyy’s remarks about security guarantees in exchange for a withdrawal from Donbas “lies”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s remarks regarding alleged security guarantees in exchange for the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas are false.

According to him, Washington has not made any demands on Ukraine regarding the withdrawal of troops.

“That’s a lie. I saw him say that, and it’s a shame he’s saying that because he knows it’s not true,” Rubio said.

He clarified that the U.S. had explained otherwise: security guarantees cannot take effect until the war ends.

At the same time, according to the secretary of state, this was not linked to any territorial concessions on Ukraine’s part.

As a reminder, the Kremlin expressed hope for new negotiations with Ukraine.

The Kremlin also commented on the upcoming talks in the U.S. without Russia’s participation.
