Sikorsky: Supporting Orbán is tantamount to supporting Russian policy

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski harshly criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, calling his actions direct support for Moscow.

In a post on social media platform X on Friday, March 27, 2026, the Polish diplomat noted that the Hungarian leader is systematically undermining the unity of the European Union by blocking sanctions packages and financial aid for Ukraine. Sikorski emphasized that Budapest’s stance fully aligns with the interests of the Kremlin, which seeks to destabilize European institutions.

The statement came amid public statements of support for Viktor Orbán from leaders of European right-wing populist parties. In particular, Geert Wilders (Netherlands), Marine Le Pen (France), Santiago Abascal (Spain), and Matteo Salvini (Italy) expressed solidarity with the Hungarian prime minister. Sikorski concluded that any alliances with Orbán under current conditions automatically amount to aiding an aggressor, as Hungary remains the main internal obstacle to joint EU defense and economic initiatives. Poland’s position reflects the continued escalation of tensions between Warsaw and Budapest on regional security issues.

Earlier, Sikorski criticized Polish President Karol Nawrocki for his plans to visit Budapest and support Orbán in the parliamentary elections.

On March 25, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a direct appeal to Hungarian citizens to vote for the country’s incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party in the April parliamentary elections.
