Forecasters are warning of nighttime frosts in Ukraine in the coming days

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning about a significant drop in temperatures expected between April 20 and 22. Frosts are expected in most regions of the country, both on the ground and in the air, which could pose a threat to crops. 

This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

According to the forecast, nighttime ground frosts (0–3°C) will affect:

• April 20: northern, eastern, and most central regions;

• April 21: western, central, and Kharkiv regions;

• April 22: the entire territory of Ukraine, with the exception of the southeast.

A Level I hazard warning (yellow) has been issued for these areas. At the same time, stronger frosts are forecast in the air in a number of regions, corresponding to a Level II hazard warning (orange). Specifically, on April 20, this will affect the northeast; on April 21–22, the northern regions; and on April 22, the western and most central regions as well.

The sharp cold snap at the end of April poses a serious challenge for farmers and homeowners with garden plots. Experts advise taking steps in advance to protect heat-loving plants and seedlings. Such weather anomalies during the flowering period of orchards can negatively impact the future harvest, which is particularly critical given the food supply challenges caused by the war with Russia. Energy officials are also urging people to be prepared for a possible increase in grid load due to the use of heaters in affected areas.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has released a forecast for the second month of spring, according to which temperatures and precipitation will remain within the climatic norm.

After a cold winter, Ukrainians are looking forward to spring warmth, but April will bring not only sunshine but also weather “swings.”
