Trump criticized NATO allies for delaying aid in the war against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed disappointment with NATO’s actions, stating that the Alliance had done nothing to support Washington in its operation against Iran.
During a cabinet meeting on March 26, he noted that allies should have offered assistance before hostilities began or immediately after they started, rather than now, when the enemy has already been defeated, the EP reports. Trump recalled his remarks from 25 years ago, calling the bloc a “paper tiger” that cares only about its own interests.
The American leader emphasized that offers to join the war should come in a timely manner, not at the stage when the conflict is ending. In particular, he mentioned Britain’s statement from three weeks ago about sending aircraft carriers, accompanying it with a critical remark regarding the quality of their fleet. According to Trump, such a stance by partners indicates a reluctance to fully assist the U.S. at critical moments. Currently, the White House’s official position is to demand that allies make maximum use of opportunities for operational cooperation in the future.
Iran has sent an official response to the United States’ proposal, which included 15 points for ending the war. Tehran’s response was conveyed to the American side through intermediaries.
As a reminder, the U.S. and Iran may hold talks on ending the war on March 26.
