In Khmelnytskyi, a train struck and killed a 64-year-old cyclist
In Khmelnytskyi, a passenger train struck a 64-year-old cyclist who rode onto a railroad crossing despite the lowered barrier, a red signal, and the engineer’s audible warnings.
The accident occurred on August 11 at approximately 7:17 p.m. at a railroad crossing on Tupikova Street in Khmelnytskyi.
According to preliminary findings from the investigation, an electric train on the “Zhmerynka–Hrechany” route struck a 64-year-old local resident who was attempting to cross the tracks on a bicycle.
“The man rode onto the crossing despite the red signal and the lowered barrier. He also failed to respond to repeated audible warnings from the train engineer. As a result of the collision, the cyclist sustained injuries that caused his death at the scene,” law enforcement officials reported.
The police were notified of the accident by the station duty officer. An investigative team arrived at the scene.
Investigators have launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules or railway operation regulations.
Law enforcement officials are determining all the circumstances of the fatal accident.

On the morning of August 10, at approximately 5:50 a.m., a fatal traffic accident occurred on Zhytomyr Highway in the Sviatoshynsky District of Kyiv. A 24-year-old Audi driver crashed into a truck traveling ahead of him. A woman and a child were killed in the accident.
As a reminder, the Pryluky City and District Court in Chernihiv Oblast sentenced a former police officer to eight years in prison for a fatal traffic accident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old child.
In Lviv Oblast, a 68-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, who was under the influence of alcohol, fatally struck a Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemember. This was reported by the Lviv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office.
