A new arts category has been added to the Shevchenko Prize

The Taras Shevchenko Prize is expanding its list of categories and will now include architecture as a separate category. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this, emphasizing the gradual modernization of the prize. According to him, this will allow the prize to better reflect contemporary Ukrainian art.

The Taras Shevchenko National Prize is gradually changing its format and expanding the range of creative fields eligible for the highest state award in the field of culture; this time, architecture has been officially added to the list, marking another step in the modernization of the prize.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on May 21 on his social media, explaining that curation, photography, and design were already included in the list last year, and now architecture has been added to them—a field that had long been overlooked by the country’s top cultural award.

According to the head of state, the update to the award is intended to make it more open to various forms of contemporary art and creativity, as it will now “reflect the significantly broader creative potential” of Ukrainian society and its cultural environment.

In essence, this represents a gradual expansion of the concept of what constitutes a cultural achievement at the national level, and now architects will also be eligible for one of Ukraine’s most prestigious state awards on par with representatives of other artistic fields.

Soldiers of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a festive message on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day.
