A fire broke out in a historic building in downtown Lviv

On Wednesday, June 10, a fire broke out in a residential building on Valova Street in downtown Lviv, where an apartment on the top (fourth) floor caught fire.

According to preliminary reports, the fire started in one of the hostels located in the building and spread to household items. The fire covered an area of about 15 square meters.

By the time rescue workers arrived, flames were already shooting out of a fourth-floor window. The fire caused heavy smoke in the building, prompting rescue workers to evacuate the residents.

A woman and a child were evacuated from the building using special equipment. According to preliminary information, there were no injuries or fatalities.

The fire was contained and fully extinguished around 8:56 a.m.

The Lviv City Council noted that, according to preliminary data from the Halytska District Administration, the fire broke out in one of the rooms used as a hostel.

Experts are investigating the cause of the incident.

The fire occurred in a historic stone building at 4 Valova Street—a 19th-century architectural landmark of local significance. The building has a complex history of renovations and is a characteristic example of Lviv’s residential architecture from the late 19th century.

The structure was originally three stories tall, but a fourth floor was added in 1884. Over the years, various municipal institutions operated here, including the Polytechnic Society and the Adam Mickiewicz Public School. The building was later renovated several times.

Currently, businessmen Ihor Kryvets and Oleksandr Veremeenko are considered the owners of the building.

This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Lviv Oblast.

On the evening of June 8, a fire broke out in the historic center of Lviv. State Emergency Service units and medical personnel are on the scene. Rescuers are working to extinguish the fire; details of the incident and the cause of the fire are being determined.
