Hungary has once again confirmed its refusal to provide military aid to Ukraine
Hungary has once again stated that it will not provide Ukraine with either weapons or military equipment to counter Russian aggression. Prime Minister Péter Magyar reaffirmed this position following talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels.
During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar reaffirmed Budapest’s unchanged position regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine, emphasizing that his country is not participating in the supply of weapons to Kyiv.
According to him, Hungary will continue to adhere to a policy of non-intervention in the form of military support, maintaining a distance from the supply of equipment and weapons to Ukraine. “I informed the Secretary General that Hungary is sending neither weapons nor military equipment to the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Magyar stated following the talks.
At the same time, the Hungarian prime minister sought to outline a broader diplomatic context and expressed his country’s intention to return to the role of a more active and reliable NATO partner, emphasizing Budapest’s desire to emerge from its previous political isolation.
Following the meeting, the parties noted limited joint cooperation, which currently takes place primarily within the framework of the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. Mark Rutte also briefed the Hungarian side on preparations for the upcoming NATO summit and discussed current security issues with Madyar, particularly the situation in certain regions where tensions are rising.
