The government will provide grants for training in the field of defense manufacturing

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has launched a pilot project aimed at strengthening the link between vocational training and the specific needs of employers. 

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this, noting that the defense-industrial complex and the energy sector will be the priority sectors for training. The goal of the initiative is to help companies train the necessary specialists more quickly to expand their own production by 2026.

The program provides for two forms of state support: direct grants for individuals and compensation for employers who invest in staff training. In 2026, the amount of support will be up to 30,000 UAH for obtaining full professional qualifications and up to 15,000 UAH for partial qualifications. The project will be funded by the Unemployment Social Insurance Fund as part of the government’s new employment policy.

Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that Ukraine must become a nation of engineers to effectively scale unique defense solutions. The new tool will complement the existing system of retraining vouchers, ensuring that workers’ skills precisely match the needs of the modern economy. The priority given to the defense sector stems from the need to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities amid Russia’s ongoing aggression and the demand for high-tech developments. The government expects these changes to quickly address the shortage of skilled labor in strategically important sectors.

The Ministry of Defense has selected 12 winning teams from the large-scale technology hackathon “Machine Offensive 2.0.” They will share $150,000 in development grants.
