The government has urged Ukrainians to stockpile water due to the threat of Russian attacks

Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery Oleksiy Kuleba has urged citizens to ensure that every household has a basic supply of water in case of critical infrastructure damage. The authorities emphasize the importance of the public taking independent precautions, as living without a water supply is a far greater challenge than power outages.

This was reported by Channel 24, citing the official’s statement on preparing the system for worst-case scenarios.

Alongside recommendations for citizens, the government is implementing resilience plans that involve creating alternative water supply schemes and providing pumping stations with backup power. The main goal of the strategy is to ensure the system can withstand Russian attacks and recover as quickly as possible. Despite engineering protections for facilities, officials are asking Ukrainians not to ignore advice on building their own reserves, as it is impossible to predict the exact timing or consequences of future attacks.

Experience from previous Russian shelling of critical infrastructure shows that having water reserves at home is a key element of basic safety. Currently, the government is focused on developing distributed power generation and physically strengthening water utilities across the country. Kuleba emphasized that the water issue is critical for the survival of cities, so preparations are being carried out comprehensively at both the national level and within each individual household.

Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is shifting its priorities in its massive strikes. It has gotten noticeably warmer outside, so leaving Ukrainians without heating is no longer an option: with temperatures at +16°C, such actions simply make no sense. Instead, the enemy plans to focus on destroying water supply and sewage systems.
