Audi and Tesla results
In a rolling-start race, the Audi E-Tron GT and Tesla Model Y showed even closer results. The publication notes that the Model Y came close to the Audi's result, although the E-Tron GT won the comparison overall.
The test involved a new Tesla Model Y, a used Audi E-Tron GT and a BMW i8, whose production BMW discontinued in 2020. According to The Fast Lane, the used E-Tron GT was purchased for approximately $47,000. The BMW i8, which cost more than $100,000 when new, could be purchased for about $45,000, while the Tesla Model Y used in the test cost around $48,000.

BMW i8 time
The BMW i8 posted a slower result in a straight race against the Audi. The E-Tron GT improved its quarter-mile time to 11.85 seconds in this test, while the i8 covered the distance in 13.04 seconds. Later, The Fast Lane team managed to achieve a time of 12.54 seconds for the BMW, but the car still lost to the Audi and Tesla.
InsideEVs notes that the BMW i8 with its three-cylinder engine still demonstrated performance unavailable to many cars on the road. The publication also points out that modern electric vehicles at a similar price can offer acceleration previously characteristic of much more expensive sports cars.
