BMW switches iX3 plant in Hungary to round-the-clock operation — InsideEVs
BMW has introduced a third shift at its plant producing the iX3 electric crossover in Debrecen, Hungary. The facility moved to round-the-clock operations after the number of orders for the model in Europe exceeded 100,000.
As InsideEVs reports, 50,000 BMW iX3 vehicles have already been assembled at the plant. Therefore, the company still needs to manufacture approximately 50,000 vehicles for orders placed in Europe.
Production ramp-up
BMW said the Debrecen site demonstrated the fastest production ramp-up among all BMW Group plants. Over eight months, the plant moved from operating one shift to a continuous schedule.

More than 5,000 employees were involved in the rapid production launch. BMW invested €2 billion in the facility, or about $2.3 billion. The iX3 is built on the Neue Klasse platform.
Next models
In the autumn, BMW plans to add a second electric model to the lines in Debrecen but did not disclose its name. Neue Klasse crossovers are currently produced only in Hungary.
At the same time, next year BMW's plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is expected to begin assembling iX3 versions for the United States. According to the publication, the electric crossover has a range of up to 434 miles under the EPA estimate and can charge from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes.
