Bovensiepen unveils 435-hp Spider based on the BMW Z4

In Germany, the starting price of the limited-edition Bovensiepen Spider roadster will be €115,500. Bovensiepen Automobile will produce 99 cars based on the BMW Z4 M40i. Orders are already open, with deliveries expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.

Power and dynamics

The Spider is equipped with BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six B58 engine. Following modifications, the unit produces 435 hp and 580 Nm of torque — 53 hp and 80 Nm more than the standard BMW Z4 M40i.

According to Motor1, the roadster accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. With the optional Performance Package, the model’s top speed reaches 295 km/h.

Design and model origins

The Spider’s appearance was updated by designer Frank Stephenson, who worked on the design of the first BMW X5 as well as the first modern Mini. The model received a subtly revised body and 20-inch forged wheels.

The new model is based on the BMW Z4, which Austrian company Magna Steyr produced in Graz alongside the technically related Toyota Supra. BMW has ended production of its two-seat roadster, so the Spider will become a limited version of the model at the end of its production history.

After Alpina

The family business in Buchloe, which previously operated under the Alpina brand, changed its name to Bovensiepen after BMW acquired the Alpina brand name in 2022. The company will continue supporting previously produced vehicles until the end of 2025 and is creating new models under its own name. Before the Spider, it had already introduced the BMW M4 Convertible-based Bovensiepen Zagato and the BMW M5 Touring-based 05 GT.
