Volkswagen updates IQ.DRIVE for 2027 models
Volkswagen is updating the IQ.DRIVE suite for the 2027 model-year Atlas, ID.Buzz, Golf, and Tiguan. As Motor1 reports, the vehicles will receive assisted lane changing using the turn signal, updated Emergency Assist Plus, and improved adaptive cruise control.
Lane changing with a turn signal
The function will operate when the Travel Assist system is activated at speeds above 45 miles per hour. To request a maneuver, the driver must partially press the turn-signal stalk. Radar sensors will check traffic in the adjacent lane and blind spots, after which the vehicle will be able to change lanes independently.
If the adjacent lane is occupied, Travel Assist will retain the request for up to 12 seconds while waiting for free space. During this time, a direction arrow will be displayed on the digital instrument cluster. The ID.Buzz will use a flashing white arrow instead of the green one used by models with internal combustion engines. If the target lane remains occupied, the system will display a red warning.
Emergency stop and protection while reversing
Emergency Assist Plus supplements the existing driver-monitoring system. If the driver does not act on the steering wheel for several seconds, the system successively issues visual and audible warnings, as well as short brake pulses. Under certain conditions, after 25 seconds without steering-wheel input while Travel Assist is operating, it can guide the vehicle to the right shoulder.

After that, the system can stop the vehicle, engage park mode, unlock the doors, and make an emergency call. If the shoulder is blocked, the vehicle will stop in the far-right lane with the hazard lights activated.
Atlas, Tiguan, and ID.Buzz will also receive a pedestrian-detection function behind the vehicle. When reversing at speeds from one to six miles per hour, the camera will monitor the space behind the vehicle and automatically brake if a pedestrian is in the vehicle's path.
Predictive adaptive cruise control will respond more quickly to new speed limits using map and road-sign data. It will also manage deceleration and the vehicle's position on motorway exits depending on the activated turn signal or active navigation route. Volkswagen defines IQ.DRIVE as a Level 2 driver-assistance system that requires the driver's constant attention.
