Changan launches five Star light commercial models in South Africa
Changan has introduced a new Star range of light commercial vehicles to the South African market, comprising five body versions. The starting price of the Single Cab Dropside is 189,000 South African rand.
As TimesLIVE reports, the range includes the Single Cab Dropside, Double Cab Dropside, Box Body, Panel Van and Mini Van. All models are equipped with a 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 72 kW and 119 Nm of torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Payload capacity and fuel consumption
The Single Cab Dropside has the highest payload capacity, at 1,090 kg. The Double Cab Dropside can carry up to 1,070 kg, the Box Body up to 985 kg, the Panel Van up to 710 kg, and the Mini Van up to 670 kg.

Fuel consumption is stated at 7.5 litres per 100 km for the Dropside and Box Body models, while the Panel Van and Mini Van are rated at 7.1 litres per 100 km. All vehicles have a 40-litre fuel tank. Changan claims a range of more than 500 km based on the stated consumption figures. CO2 emissions are 178 g/km for the Dropside and Box Body models and 166 g/km for the vans. According to the company, the engine complies with the Euro 4 standard.
Equipment and prices
The models come with 14-inch steel wheels, halogen projector headlights, air conditioning and a heater. They also feature fabric seat upholstery, PVC floor covering, a power outlet and an infotainment system with AM/FM radio, USB connectivity and MP3 support.
The Double Cab Dropside costs 199,000 rand in South Africa, while the Panel Van costs 204,000 rand. The Box Body and Mini Van are priced at 219,000 rand each. All versions are covered by a five-year or 200,000 km warranty, as well as 24-hour roadside assistance for the same period and mileage.
