Hyundai Mobis launches electric drive system production in Slovakia
Hyundai Mobis has begun mass production of electric drive systems for electric vehicles at a new plant in the Slovak city of Novaky. This is the company’s first facility of this type in Europe, Korea Herald reports. The automotive components manufacturer plans to strengthen its presence in the European electric vehicle market.
Plant capacity
Hyundai Mobis invested about 250 billion won, or $184 million, in the facility. The plant can produce up to 280,000 PE systems annually — electric drive systems that combine an electric motor, inverter and reducer in a single unit.
The site covers an area of 106,000 square meters. At the same time, production lines for stators and inverters occupy 8,500 square meters.
Production network in Europe
About 100 representatives of the authorities and the European Union, customers and suppliers attended the opening ceremony. Participants included Hyundai Mobis CEO Lee Kyu-suk, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova and Trencin Region Governor Jaroslav Baska.

The facility in Novaky became Hyundai Mobis’ third base for producing electrification components in Europe, following battery system plants in the Czech Republic and Spain. The company’s electrification production network also includes South Korea, the United States, the Czech Republic and Indonesia.
Hyundai Mobis considers Europe, the world’s second-largest electric vehicle market, one of its key growth regions. The company expects that the plant’s location in Slovakia will help it respond more promptly to European demand and secure more global orders. Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis and Volvo operate manufacturing facilities in the country.
By 2033, Hyundai Mobis plans to increase the share of revenue from global customers to 40%. The Novaky plant is expected to become one of the key bases for achieving this goal.
