Ionna network in the US increased the number of charging ports by 50%
The US fast-charging network for electric vehicles, Ionna, has increased the number of charging ports by 50% over the past six months, to 1,488. As of September, the network has 174 charging stations in the United States, 74% more than six months earlier, InsideEVs reports, citing the US Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center.
Network expansion
Ionna installs DC chargers with capacities of up to 400 kW. In March, the company reported the launch of its 100th station and the commissioning of its 1,000th individual charging spot.
The first Ionna DC chargers began operating in December 2024. The automaker-backed company plans to deploy 30,000 DC charging spots in the United States by 2030.

Capacity and payment
Ionna primarily uses Alpitronic charging pedestals with two cables. This means that the planned 30,000 charging spots will correspond to approximately 15,000 individual pedestals, each capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power.
According to the latest JD Power Electric Vehicle Experience Public Charging Study, Ionna offered the country’s best public charging experience, scoring 803 points in its first year of operation. The network’s chargers are equipped with bank card readers, while Plug and Charge technology is available for some electric vehicles.
Owners of General Motors, BMW, Hyundai, Genesis, and Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles can receive discounts of 10% to 20% if they manage a charging session through Plug and Charge or their automaker’s app.
