Mitsuoka unveils Mazda MX-5 styled as a Corvette C1 — Motor1

Japanese company Mitsuoka has unveiled the first official images of the LA1 roadster, which, according to Motor1, was likely created on the basis of the ND-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. The car received a body styled after the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette C1 of the 1950s.

Corvette retro styling

The LA1's exterior incorporates features of the classic American sports car: a rounded front end, four headlights, pronounced fenders, chrome decorative elements and smooth body lines. At the same time, the car is expected to retain the compact dimensions and two-seat layout characteristic of the Mazda MX-5.

Mitsuoka has not yet disclosed all technical specifications of the LA1. According to Motor1, the model will likely retain the MX-5 layout, with a front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and an emphasis on low weight rather than high power.

Presentation and orders

The full presentation of the Mitsuoka LA1 is scheduled for November 26. The following day, the company plans to open orders for the model.

This is not Mitsuoka's first project based on the Mazda MX-5. Three years ago, the company introduced the Himiko: according to Motor1's description, the roadster's design combined features of the Morgan Aero 8 and Jaguar XK120. Only 10 cars were produced, and the price of each was approximately $49,000 when converted.
