Four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen overtook 100 rivals in the Red Bull Max vs 100 karting race at Silverstone. The Dutch driver started 101st among 101 participants and passed the final rival on lap 14 of 30. According to Motor1, he completed all the overtakes in exactly 35 minutes.

The final rival

The final participant Verstappen passed was pole-position holder Jackie Martens. Verstappen's fastest lap was 2 minutes 20.673 seconds, more than 2.5 seconds quicker than Martens' best result.

The race featured Red Bull athletes, content creators, streamers, journalists and fans from different countries. Most of them had driven the temporary track configuration only twice before race day. In the first minutes, 63 participants were eliminated, even before Verstappen completed the first lap.

Race rules

Under the Max vs 100 rules, an overtake was counted when the rear wheels of Verstappen's kart drew level with the front wheels of a rival's kart. After that, the overtaken participant stopped competing. Before crossing the start-finish line on the first lap, Verstappen had passed more than 10 drivers, and two minutes after the start he had climbed to 37th position.

Martens, YouTuber Zak Alsop and Red Bull Ford Powertrains technician Lewis Osler pulled 12 seconds clear of the rest of the participants. Verstappen was closing the gap by around three seconds per lap. On lap 12, the race director gave the trio an additional fast lap, but on the following lap Verstappen caught the group, passed Alsop and Osler in one corner, and then overtook Martens.

The organizers simulated the race and expected that passing all rivals would take about 40 minutes.
