Tesla Urges Trump to Maintain Emissions Rules and Climate Standards

Tesla has urged Donald Trump’s administration not to repeal existing vehicle emissions standards or long-standing climate rules. The company warned that the Environmental Protection Agency’s plan to give automakers more leeway would weaken oversight and pose risks to public health.

Tesla argued that scrapping the standards would reduce the value of performance-based incentives that drive electric vehicle innovation, while creating an uneven playing field. The company also said the rollback could cost it billions of dollars in regulatory credits it currently earns and sells to other automakers.
Elon Musk, once an adviser to Trump, has criticized the administration’s plan to phase out EV tax credits. Tesla stressed that keeping emissions rules intact is essential to sustain innovation, meet climate goals, and ensure the long-term competitiveness of the US auto industry.
