Severe weather in Kyiv has caused flooding on the streets and power outages – video
In the late afternoon of June 29, Kyiv was hit by a severe storm featuring thunder, gusty winds, and heavy rain, which caused power outages and toppled trees in several districts of the capital.
Due to strong gusts of wind, trees fell throughout the city—some of which were uprooted—and heavy rainfall caused flooding on roads in certain areas. However, there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries so far.
In light of localized power grid failures, DTEK has put emergency response teams in Kyiv and the Kyiv region on an enhanced round-the-clock schedule to quickly address the aftermath of the storm. Power company officials urged residents of the capital to use electricity sparingly once power is restored to avoid placing an additional critical load on the grid damaged by the storm.
On June 30, Ukraine will be hit by extreme heat, with temperatures reaching +38°C.
