Katarina Maternová, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, showed what life is like at the EU Delegation in Kyiv during the Russian attacks. The diplomat shared photos from the office and described the explosions that could be heard and seen from the delegation’s building.

On the morning of September 23, Maternová posted a photo showing burning buildings near the EU Delegation in Kyiv. According to her, that morning Russia attacked two gas stations and warehouses in the capital, as well as striking railway infrastructure.

“This is the reality of war. It is ugly, brutal, and deeply tragic. If you woke up in peace today, my friends, don’t take it for granted,” Maternova noted.

The Russian attack did indeed cause damage to Kyiv’s civilian infrastructure. In particular, hits on gas stations and damage to warehouses were reported.

Later, Katarina Maternova reported that two more powerful explosions were visible from the EU Delegation’s office. She also posted a photo of staff members who were in the building’s hallway.

“This is how we’re working now,” the EU ambassador wrote.

Later, Maternova described another explosion. According to her, as she entered her office, a very loud explosion rang out—a jet-powered drone struck a target directly behind the building, which is visible from her window.

“This happened after this morning’s strikes, also near the Delegation. In addition, two gas stations in Kyiv were damaged. This Russian terror never stops…,” the diplomat stated.

On the morning of September 23, Kyiv came under a large-scale attack by Russian drones. As a result of the strikes in various districts of the capital, civilian and transportation infrastructure facilities were damaged.

Katarina Maternova reported this on the social media platform X.

Two people were killed and another 25 residents of the capital were injured as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Separately, a fire was reported at the “Shaiba” market near the train station. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the station building was not damaged.

Amid the strikes, passengers were urged to avoid Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.

Due to the heightened air threat, Kyiv City Express service was temporarily suspended in both directions this morning. “Ukrzaliznytsia” also reported that one of its employees was injured while returning home after his shift.

In addition, a Ukrnafta gas station in Kyiv was completely destroyed following a Russian attack.
