Residents of Kyiv have filed a petition calling for fines to be imposed for setting up tents at metro stations
An online petition has been posted on the official website of the Kyiv City Council proposing a ban on setting up tourist tents, inflatable beds, and large mattresses in subway stations during air raid alerts.
The author of the initiative believes that such a decision would significantly increase the capacity of underground shelters and ensure a comfortable stay for a larger number of people.
The collection of signatures for the official petition has already begun on the Kyiv City Council platform.
The corresponding petition, No. 14277, was officially published on June 2, and its author is Natalia Oleksandrivna Tits.
The Kyiv resident proposes that city authorities impose an official ban on setting up tourist tents, inflatable beds, mattresses, and other similar sleeping gear in the metro.
According to her, these items take up too much space and limit the usable area of platforms and underground passages for other citizens.
To ensure the effective implementation of the new rules, the author of the petition proposes establishing a strict system of penalties and fines.
For violations of the established rules, it is proposed to punish civilians with an administrative fine of 5,000 UAH, with mandatory confiscation of the specified property.
In addition, the initiative calls for increased monitoring at stations—requiring police officers and station staff to promptly identify such items, demand their removal, and issue administrative citations.
Natalia Tits justifies the need for these changes by citing the need to ensure equal rights for all Kyiv residents seeking safety during shelling.
“The space occupied by a single tent or mattress (where only one or two people are present) could safely accommodate four to ten people in a seated position. Due to the selfish use of space, other city residents—particularly the elderly, pregnant women, and children—lack space,” the petition states.
This is reported in the text of the appeal.
