A Kyiv resident stalked women and tried to hack into their accounts
In Kyiv, a man was formally charged in absentia; according to the investigation, he had been stalking women for years after they stopped communicating with him. Law enforcement officials believe he collected their personal information, monitored their activity on social media, and attempted to gain access to their accounts on banking services, messaging apps, and other applications.
In Kyiv, law enforcement officials charged a man suspected of systematically stalking women and illegally collecting their personal data. According to the investigation, the man had been befriending women for several years. Investigators traced the first such incidents back to 2017. When women stopped communicating or did not want to continue contact, the man, according to law enforcement, would not leave them alone.
He continued to send messages, searched for the women’s social media pages, and collected information about their lives. Investigators believe the man also studied the victims’ habits and preferences. Currently, 11 women have been recognized as victims in the criminal proceedings.
He Tried to Gain Access to Their Personal Accounts
According to the prosecutor’s office, the harassment was not limited to messages and searching for information on social media. Law enforcement officials claim that the man attempted to gain access to the women’s personal accounts on various online services. Specifically, these include:
- online banking;
- messaging apps;
- mobile apps;
- delivery services;
- taxi services.
As a result of these attempts, the victims regularly received notifications about attempts to log into their accounts. According to investigators, the man attempted to gain access to the women’s personal information without their consent. Law enforcement officials classified his actions under Part 2 of Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of privacy.
The suspect was notified in absentia
The man was notified of the suspicion in absentia. This means that, at this time, law enforcement officials have not carried out this procedural action directly in his presence. The investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the case and verify the suspect’s actions regarding the victims.
At the same time, it is important to note that at this stage, this is merely a suspicion and not a proven guilt. The final assessment of the man’s actions must be made by a court. If his guilt is proven, he will face liability in accordance with Ukrainian law. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
