Kyiv City Council did not support a moratorium on public transportation fare hikes — Vitrenko

The Kyiv City Council did not support the decision to impose a moratorium on fare increases for public transportation in the capital.

This was stated by Kyiv City Council member Andriy Vitrenko.

According to him, deputies from the UDAR and European Solidarity factions did not support the vote on the relevant decision.

“Today, the Kyiv City Council effectively ignored the interests of Kyiv residents and did not support the decision to impose a moratorium on fare increases for public transportation,” Vitrenko stated.

He noted that his faction submitted a draft resolution on the moratorium last year, as it believes that before raising fares, city authorities must demonstrate effective management of public utilities.

“Any fare increase must be economically justified, transparent, and take into account the actual financial capacity of Kyiv residents,” the deputy emphasized.

Vitrenko also reported that parliamentary inquiries had been submitted requesting a full economic justification for any potential fare increases.

“City authorities must demonstrate the use of internal reserves to stabilize the operations of municipal enterprises,” he added.

According to the deputy, the voting results showed “who is ready to defend the interests of Kyiv residents during difficult times, and who avoids responsibility for decisions that directly affect the life of the city.”

The Kyiv City State Administrationis preparing to review public transportation fares in the capital.

Additionally, the capital’s law enforcement agencies dismantled two corruption schemes, the organizers of which promised men of draft age that they could avoid mobilization through official deferments.
