A looter who ransacked an office following a rocket strike was arrested in Kyiv

Law enforcement officials have charged a man with robbing an office building that was damaged by Russian rocket fire on May 24. 

This was reported by the Kyiv Police.

According to the investigation, the suspect took advantage of the aftermath of the attack on the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, broke into the damaged office, and stole a laptop and a charger.

The total value of the stolen property is approximately 40,000 hryvnias.

Passersby noticed the man as he was fleeing. Eyewitnesses detained the suspect and held him until the police arrived.

The suspect has now been notified of the charges against him. He faces up to eight years in prison.

The police also noted that this is not the first case of looting following the massive shelling of Kyiv on the night of May 24.

Earlier, law enforcement officers detained another man who was looting damaged apartments in the Podil district while residents were taking shelter during an air raid alert.

Law enforcement officials are urging citizens to report suspicious individuals near damaged buildings and to prevent incidents of looting during the war.

As a reminder, vendors are gradually returning to Kyiv’s historic Lukyanivsky Market, which was severely damaged by the Russian attack on May 24. Despite the destruction and aftermath of the shelling, people are trying to resume trade and return to their normal lives.
