Ukrainian authorities have stated that the "Oreshnik" missile, which Russia used on May 24, likely contains no foreign components. At the same time, other types of Russian weaponry, including missiles and “Shaheds,” still contain Western parts and are being actively examined following the strikes. This was stated on television by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President of Ukraine’s Representative for Sanctions Policy.

The Russian “Oreshnik” missile, which was used during the shelling on May 24, was likely assembled without the use of Western, Chinese, or Japanese components, but this does not make it any less dangerous, as other types of Russian weapons still heavily rely on foreign technologies, according to Ukrainian experts who analyzed the debris.

This was stated by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President of Ukraine’s Representative on Sanctions Policy, while commenting on the results of preliminary investigations into Russian missiles and drones found following the latest strikes on Ukraine.

According to him, the “Oreshnik” was already the third such model that could be examined in greater detail, as this time more fragments suitable for analysis remained after the strike. He described the situation quite bluntly: “95% of everything that was available in terms of debris was in the field. Well, and a few bits landed in several garages.”

At the same time, Vlasyuk emphasized that despite the absence of modern foreign components, this weapon remains dangerous, especially when it comes to a fully loaded round. He explained that the Oreshnik’s design is based on older Soviet developments dating back to the 1970s and 1980s, and this is what partly determines its characteristics. “We believe there are no foreign components there; we believe that the Soviet components used in it truly trace their roots back to designs from the 1970s and 1980s. This has the advantage that it is not susceptible to electronic warfare,” he noted, adding that such a technological base makes the system less dependent on imports.

Separately, Vlasyuk emphasized that other types of Russian missiles, specifically the Kh-101 and “Iskander” missiles, which were also used during the May 24 attack, may be significantly “newer” in terms of production date. According to him, some of them were actually manufactured shortly before being deployed. “In other words, those X-101 missiles fired at the Kyiv region were the freshest possible, straight off the assembly line. We also saw some Iskander ballistic missiles,” he said.

Another important area of analysis remains the “Shaheds.” Ukrainian experts are already examining the wreckage of downed drones, and preliminary findings suggest that some of them may also contain relatively new foreign components.

Vlasyuk added that once the parts are fully identified, information about the manufacturers and serial numbers will be forwarded to the relevant authorities in the countries where the companies involved in supplying these components are registered.

He also reported that since the beginning of 2026, thanks to Ukrainian expertise and cooperation with U.S. law enforcement, it has already been possible to block about ten supply channels for American components to the Russian military-industrial complex.

On the night of May 24, 2026, during a massive combined attack on Kyiv, Russian occupiers struck the territory of the “Ancient Kyiv” State Historical and Architectural Reserve. As a result of the shelling, architectural landmarks suffered serious damage, and the National Museum “Chernobyl” in Podil was almost completely destroyed.
