Klitschko honored Syrsky and Zabuzhko on Kyiv Day

In Kyiv, to mark City Day, Mayor Vitali Klitschko presented state awards and the title of “Honorary Citizen of Kyiv” to prominent Kyiv residents, including Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and writer Oksana Zabuzhko. In total, dozens of people working in various sectors of the capital’s life received awards. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

Vitali Klitschko emphasized that the presentation of honorary titles and state awards is an expression of gratitude to people who, through their work, strengthen the capital and the country. “The conferral of the title ‘Honorary Citizen of Kyiv’ and state awards of Ukraine is an expression of gratitude and respect for those who, through their activities, develop our city and strengthen the state,” noted the mayor of Kyiv.

He also extended special thanks to educators who continue to work even under the difficult conditions of war, teaching and supporting the younger generation. In total, 40 Kyiv residents received awards from the mayor. Among them are representatives of the medical, educational, cultural, scientific, and military sectors. The list of honorees includes the Orders “For Merit,” “For Courage,” the Order of Princess Olga, the Medal “For Labor and Valor,” as well as the honorary titles “Honored Artist of Ukraine,” “Honored Teacher of Ukraine,” and other state awards.

Nine people received the title of “Honorary Citizen of Kyiv” this year. Among them are Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, writer Oksana Zabuzhko, Rector of the Kyiv Municipal Glier Academy of Music Oleksandr Zlotnyk, medical professionals and scientists, as well as figures in culture and education. The title was also posthumously awarded to Viktor Ognev’yuk, who served as president of the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University from 2007 to 2022.

City officials note that such honors are a traditional way to highlight people’s contributions to Kyiv’s development. This year, the focus is on those working under wartime conditions, supporting the city, and continuing to advance education, culture, medicine, and the defense sector. Klitschko also presented 12 letters of appreciation from the mayor to the capital’s top educators.

Kyiv plans to significantly expand its bicycle infrastructure between 2026 and 2027. The city has announced the creation of four major bicycle routes with a total length of about 50 km, which will connect central districts with residential areas and are expected to improve mobility in the capital.
