Kyiv plans to introduce a new municipal honor for military personnel—the title of "Honorary Defender of the City of Kyiv."
This was announced by the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
According to him, the Kyiv City Council may consider the relevant decision on the eve of Kyiv Day.
The new title will be awarded to Kyiv residents who are military personnel and who took direct part in defending Ukraine’s state sovereignty and security during the full-scale war.
“The main criteria for the award will be personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated during the defense of Kyiv and for the safety of the capital’s community,” Klitschko stated.
The mayor also noted that the award will take the form of a lapel pin featuring the official symbol of Kyiv.
“Kyiv wants to properly recognize the special merits of our defenders,” Klitschko emphasized.
Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Lieutenant General Anatoliy Kryvonozhko, on behalfof President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, presented state awards to Ukrainian F-16 pilots.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi awarded honorary breastplates to military personnel, representatives of the Ministry of Defense, and the defense industry who designed modern navigation and correction modules.
