Klitschko called for an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council regarding Kyiv's security
On July 6, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called for an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. According to him, the participants must agree on a comprehensive plan to enhance the capital’s resilience amid intensifying Russian attacks.
“Kyiv insists on the immediate convening of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and on its consideration of joint measures with the state to implement the Comprehensive Resilience Plan for the capital,” the statement reads.
The mayor noted that, in accordance with the law, Kyiv’s comprehensive resilience plan was adopted by the Kyiv City Council and subsequently signed by the mayor. According to him, the document was submitted to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on March 10.
“Since then, we have heard nothing but vague complaints and attended meetings that have yielded no results in terms of cooperation. Instead, the state is failing to fulfill its agreements—whether regarding 50/50 funding for the plan’s measures, organizational issues, or the legal regulation of certain measures. The latest statements regarding the alleged allocation of 10 billion hryvnias to Kyiv seem strange, since Kyiv has not received any documentary confirmation of this,” Klitschko added.
The mayor emphasized that Kyiv is already implementing measures under the comprehensive resilience plan using the city budget and borrowed funds. “But the government must take a responsible approach to the issue of the capital’s resilience. Because here, the responsibility is shared. After all, the issue of Kyiv’s resilience is a matter of the country’s resilience,” he said.
“Kyiv has identified all priority projects, as well as the necessary funding and resources for their implementation, by revising the plan. It has been submitted to the National Security and Defense Council, the government, and the Office of the President. We have also highlighted critical issues that cannot be resolved today without the state’s involvement. Therefore, we are counting on the common sense of the relevant state agencies and, finally, on constructive cooperation,” the mayor concluded.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Russia’s massive nighttime attack on Kyiv on July 6, during which the occupiers launched 68 missiles and deployed 351 attack drones.
During the morning shelling on July 6, Russian terrorists struck the DAO sorting terminal of the “Nova Poshta” company in Dnipro. The strike caused a fire on the premises, which rescue workers quickly extinguished.
The Russians last launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the night of July 2. On that occasion, Russian forces launched 496 UAVs of various types and 74 missiles—including air-, ground-, and sea-based missiles of various types—at Ukraine.
