A former judge from Kyiv has been charged in connection with a shooting over Russian music

A former judge of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has been notified that he is suspected of hooliganism involving the use of a weapon following a conflict over playing Russian music loudly

In early May 2026, the suspect, who was still a sitting judge at the time, was playing Russian music loudly in his car near a playground in the evening, according to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

After being reprimanded by passersby, the man responded with profanity, got out of the car, and started a confrontation. During the altercation, he drew his own firearm, ostentatiously cocked it, and pointed it at his opponents, ignoring pleas to calm down. One of the men present tackled the assailant to the ground to disarm him, but the assailant managed to fire three random shots, posing a real threat to the lives and health of those around him.

Based on the results of the pretrial investigation, the retired judge has already been notified of his status as a suspect in a hooliganism case, that is, a gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society, accompanied by particular audacity, and involving the use of a firearm, under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Further investigative actions are currently underway in the criminal proceedings under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier, in the Lviv region, law enforcement officers quickly located and detained a man who opened fire in the regional center and threatened a passerby with a weapon.

In the village of Letychiv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, law enforcement officers detained a 31-year-old local resident who opened fire with an automatic weapon near the territorial recruitment and social support center.
