The legendary Bessarabsky Market stands empty following its renovation

Since the food court was set up at the Bessarabsky Market in Kyiv, attendance has been low. According to eyewitnesses, on a weekday around 8:00 p.m., only a few tables were occupied out of approximately 350 seats.

Restaurant staff note that this situation is typical for weekdays, while there are slightly more visitors on weekends.

Critics of the project believe that instead of developing a traditional market featuring products from farmers and local producers, part of the historic building was converted into a food court that is not meeting expected demand.

In their view, this has negatively impacted the atmosphere of the Bessarabsky Market, which for over a century has been one of Kyiv’s symbols and an important commercial hub for the city.

The Bessarabsky Market opened in 1912. It is an architectural landmark and one of Ukraine’s most famous covered markets.

The Kyiv City State Administration responded to the discussion among Kyiv residents regarding tents in the metro during emergencies.

An online petition was registered on the official website of the Kyiv City Council proposing a ban on setting up tourist tents, inflatable beds, and large mattresses in metro stations during air raid alerts.
