Kyiv residents urged not to bring tents to the metro during the unrest

The Kyiv Metro has updated its guidelines for people using subway stations as shelters during air raid alerts. Passengers are asked to refrain from bringing camping tents and large inflatable mattresses, as they take up a lot of space and inconvenience others.

Instead, the metro advises bringing sleeping pads, sleeping bags, warm clothing, or blankets. The temperature in underground stations is usually 17–18 degrees, and drafts often occur due to ventilation.

It is also recommended to bring a supply of water, a thermos with a hot drink, necessary medications, and hygiene supplies. Pet owners are asked not to forget diapers and waste bags.

Currently, 46 underground stations of the capital’s metro are operating as shelters around the clock. Metro officials emphasize that people should position themselves in a way that keeps passageways to service areas, restrooms, and trains clear.

Metro officials also noted that during alerts, central stations—including “Zoloti Vorota,” “Maidan Nezalezhnosti,” “Khreshchatyk,” and “Ploshcha Ukrainskykh Heroiv,” are usually less crowded than stations in residential areas.

An online petition has been registered on the official website of the Kyiv City Council proposing a ban on setting up tourist tents, inflatable beds, and large mattresses at metro stations during air raid alerts.

The Kyiv City State Administration responded to the discussion among Kyiv residents regarding tents in the metro during air raid alerts.
